Executive Director

As the Executive Director of GEMM COMM, Khalid Malik drives our mission to deliver clean, affordable, and reliable energy solutions to unserved markets and underserved communities. 

 

Prior to co-founding GEMM COMM, Khalid acquired over 12 years of professional career experience in project management with expertise in performing energy audits and delivering energy-efficiency projects. He reduced energy loads for hundreds of commercial building properties that include office, retail, warehouse, manufacturing, recreational, parking, multifamily and faith-based footprint.

Khalid developed a special interest in community-serving projects during his experience as a community navigator and program implementer. He has been on the front lines of catastrophic natural disasters that displaced residents and disrupted local business operations. In these times, he developed improvement plans to mitigate climate hazards and accelerate economic relief efforts. He continues to work closely with local, state and federal agencies to further develop energy efficiency and resiliency in these energy-use challenged communities.

 

With these invaluable experiences, Khalid is able to bring his expertise to GEMM COMM to facilitate retrofits of low- and moderate-income communities and transform small-to-medium sized businesses into resilient commercial operations with current focus in Mid Atlantic: Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC.
